Alguna vez les ha pasado que ven a alguien comiendo o tomando algo y la imagen se va directamente a su cabeza, fijándose más fuerte que un chicle en el cabello? A mí me pasa todo el tiempo.Este fin de semana un granizado de café me sacó de concentración por un buen rato.

Fue en un lugar concurrido donde hacían filas para comprarlo. Pero yo conozco la marca, he observado que no se preocupan demasiado por capacitar a su personal y que, en realidad, no parece importarles mucho qué tan bien hacen su café. En definitiva, sabía que el sabor de aquel granizado no estaría ni cerca de lo que parecía, quizás tendría alguna nota de café, bastante de leche y un montón de azúcar. No quise averiguarlo.

Algo que un comelón aprende con el tiempo es que, como todo en la vida, si esperas algo extraordinario, no puedes sucumbir a tu primer instinto,tienes que ser paciente, esperar el momento adecuado y hacer los esfuerzos que sean necesarios para conseguirlo.

Tan pronto como tuve la oportunidad, y aunque eran casi las nueve de la noche, me fui a una cafeteria que abrió hace poco en Panama. No había probado el granizado ahí, pero conservaba la buena impresión que me dejaron la primera vez que entré a una de sus sucursales, hace como seis años, en Singapur. Esta gente hace buen café, así que esperaba que, por lo menos, tuvieran un granizado aceptable.

Llegué unos 15 minutos antes de que cerraran y ¡Gracias a Dios! Fui transportada directamente a mis más felices momentos de chocólatra confesa. El sabor a cacao tocó mis papilas gustativas sin ningún pudor y se ganó su lugar en el salón de la fama de mis comidas y bebidas memorables. Había pedido un “Ice Blended Dark Chocolate Drink”, con café, por supuesto. No sé si es tan bueno como lo percibí o fueron las bajas expectativas que tenía, basada en experiencias anteriores de bebidas ordinarias. Lo cierto es que pocas cosas son tan placenteras como ser sorprendido por lo extraordinariamente bueno, esto nos cambia el estado de ánimo de inmediato y nos hace ver el mundo de una forma diferente.

Has it happens to you that you see someone with an ice blended coffee and the image of the plastic glass full of smoothy, creamy mix of caffee and milk gets fixed into your mind? Well, it happens to me all the time, not just with that beverage, but with many different foods. Anyway, something a good eater knows well is that most of the time thinks are not what they look like, so maybe you should not surrender to your first instinct.

It just happened to me this weekend, but this time I knew that the ice blended was not tasting even close to the good it looked like, I know the brand of the coffee shop, I know they are not obsessive about employees training and they really don’t care about the taste of their coffee, they just sell a coffee with a lot of sugar, and yes, they sell a lot.

That coffee was looking so good… but no, as everything in the life, if you expect something extraordinary, you have to be patient, find the right moment and make the necessary effort.

Later on, when I had the opportunity, I drove to another coffee shop that recently opened in Panamá. I didn’t know their ice blended coffee, but I still remember the first impression they left on me around six years ago in Singapore. This guys really care about the coffee, so I though they would have, at least, an acceptable ice blended.

I arrived there around 15 minutes before they closed and Thanks Good! This guys really like to make coffee! I had one of this wonderful experiencesof the extraordinarily good. I chose an Ice Blended Dark Chocolate Drink, with coffee, of course, that touched my taste buds with a cocoa dream that went directly to my brain and connect with the best memories of a confessed chocolatra.

I don’t know if it was as good as I perceived or it was the low expectation I had based in the the bad memories of other brands ordinary drinks. Anyway, this beverage just got into my hall of fame of memorable food moments.
